I am an artist who shifted from the mainstream contemporary arts scene and began making tables. I wanted to have more control over who could see and benefit from the artwork.
Over time, I became more interested in design and geometry and began incorporating that into my tables. I use black walnut, maple, and purple heart wood as well as repurposed wood for a variety of projects. This work integrates my Black American heritage and Islam to present a different take on Islamic art. I’ve used fabric, paper and quilt squares to highlight the historical presence of muslims in America.
